This file is one of the evidence, example or data files that accompanies the "Nadine" Story, an account of commercial mailing lists gone amok.  See the main page for the details.

I decided to try to help a game player who had signed up at a web site with an incorrect email address and was not receiving important messages regarding the state of play.  Since the traffic to this account was in French I guessed that this person was in Belgium and sent a query to the corresponding "honet.be" address, which was initially accepted by the honet.be mail server:

Fri 2002-01-18 19:49:35: [460:4751] SMTP session successful, 906 bytes transferred.

Apparently the person concerned is either (a) not a Belgian or (b) even more confused about his/her address than I had imagined, because the message ultimately bounced:

The hits just keep on coming for poor "Nadine". Sad tale of email lists
gone horribly wrong is now in progress at <http://www.honet.com/Nadine/>

Trying the same ploy on the assumption that the person might be in Germany, I sent a similar query to the corresponding honet.de account, but found that honet.de was much more abrupt:

Fri 2002-01-18 19:57:34: [316:4763] RCPT To:<hot@honet.de>
Fri 2002-01-18 19:57:35: [316:4763] 550 Unknown local part hot in <hot@honet.de>
